Cream, Foam or Gel - Which One Works for You?

Shaving Cream? Oil? Foam? With all the different options on the market it can be a bit tricky to find out which one works for you. You could try buying one at random, hope for the best and ditch it if it doesn’t work out but we think that there’s a better way to approach your shaving products.

Clean Shave

If you’re one of the many blokes in the UK who still prefer a traditional close shave you aren’t alone.

Although we fully support the chap who rocks a lumberjack beard or handlebar moustache (each to their own after all) some men simply aren’t in the environment to stop shaving because of work, don’t like the feeling of facial hair or simply prefer a classic approach (#SelfCare).

If you’re one of those many men and you’re in the hunt for the perfect mens shaving cream we’d like to subtly point you in the direction of our traditional barber inspired Original Shave Cream.

Even if you lean more into the designer stubble look but need to suit up (winter wedding anyone?) but have got used to an electric razor there’s still hope for you yet! Try adding a few drops of shave oil to your cream or under your gel for some additional lubrication. Our Original Shave Oil helps to soften your stubble for a smoother shave.

Bumps & Redness

One of the worst things about a daily shave is razor burn, not fun on your face at all. If you want to shave without bumps or redness the best place to start is with a face scrub. This helps to remove dead skin and lift the facial hairs for a much closer shave.

You might also be one of the many men in the UK who have sensitive or sensitive prone skin. An unscented shaving cream is a great way to minimise the chances of a sensitive skin breakout. Our Sensitive range is completely fragrance free and specially formulated for sensitive skin. Our Foaming Sensitive Shave Gel creates a rich, think lather and is, of course, unscented and fragrance free.

Another cause of razor bumps burns and redness is using a blunt blade. Why not take stock of your shaving products and see if they need to be updated or changed entirely? Make sure you use a decent razor (please don’t use a plastic disposable they’re not very good, in our opinion, and think of the landfill!). OurOriginal Bamboo Razorhas five tempered steel blades and has a bamboo wooden handle. We’d suggest you change your razor head every 5 shaves or so.

Trimming Facial Hair

With the renaissance of the beard (it’s definitely not going anywhere soon) and more relaxed attitudes to facial hair, more and more men are shunning the freshly shaved look.

If you’ve got facial hair but still like to shave, either to tidy up around a full on beard or to make sure your ‘tash is the only bit of facial fuzz, you want a product that’s going to help you know where you should and shouldn’t be shaving.

It’s all well and good having a well waxed moustache (if that’s your thing) but if you can’t see where your tidying your hair you may end up looking a little wonky or not as styled as you may like! This can be especially nerve racking for men embarking on a more involved facial hair style.

One way to help overcome this particular issue is to use a non-foaming, transparent shave gel. It may sound a little weird at first but foaming formulations are actually a fairly recent development in the wet shave department. Our Original Shave Gel goes on transparently and doesn’t foam, this is ideal to help you achieve precision shaving. It helps the razor to glide smoothly over the face for a close shave.

Why wet shave?

Although rocking a beard or ‘tash is a cracking look it doesn’t suit everyone or work for everyone’s lifestyles (i.e. work). The great thing about democratising facial hair is just that, go with what you like/need/can do. If you can’t grow a beard don’t beat yourself up about it!

Can’t I just dry shave?

Ouch! We’d say a big old “no” to that one. You’re going to have a really uncomfortable shave if you’re dragging a razor across dry skin. It’s also going to make you more likely to get razor bumps, stubble burn and ingrown hairs.

What’s the difference between a Cream, Foam or a Gel?

We’ll it’s the consistency really, just like there’s a difference between oil and water. They also do different jobs and tend to work better for people with different types of facial hair, skin types or stubble thickness.
