Post-Shave Products for Healthier Skin

We talk a lot about getting the perfect shave. From sculpting techniques to choosing the right shaving foam, we look at every aspect of this important daily ritual. But, what about the post-shave process? Are you rinsing away the foam and leaving it there? Do you find your post-shave skin tight or flaky?

Let’s look at some of the most important products you need to use after the razor gets put down.

What should I put on my face after shaving?

Well, aftershave? The clue is in the question, but is that all you need to give your skin a fighting chance? The problem with some aftershaves, and why they tend to do more harm than good, is that they’re alcohol-based. The alcohol acts as an astringent which can strip away oils and dry out the skin.

Wondering why alcohol was used in the first place if it’s so bad? Originally, the astringent alcohol content was intended to clean and disinfect any cuts or nicks you might have made during the shave. However, this wasn’t always a healthy or even comfortable experience – that famous Home Alone scene anyone?

Using an alcohol-free aftershave balm or liquid is the best way to make the most of all the benefits without any of the stinging downsides. Our Aftershave Balm is completely alcohol-free and, if you have sensitive skin, our Sensitive Aftershave Balm is perfect – it’s fragrance-free making it extra gentle on freshly shaved skin.

Which is better, aftershave lotion or balm?

Lotion and balm offer different things but they reach the same end: hydration. Balms tend to have a creamier consistency and have a lower alcohol content than lotion, meaning they can nourish the skin without drying it out.

Sensitive Aftershave

Our Bulldog Skincare Original Aftershave Balm isn’t sticky and leaves the skin feeling soothed and moisturised. With aloe vera, camelina oil, and green tea extract, it joins the rest of the Original Range by bringing quick absorption and intense nourishment without removing any of your skin’s natural protective barrier.

If you have sensitive skin, don’t fret, we’ve got a Sensitive Aftershave Balm too. This one is made with willow bark, juniper, and baobab oil. It’s not greasy or sticky, and the non-drying formulation means your skin will feel soft and protected.

What is the best moisturiser?

One of our favourite moisturisers is the Bulldog Skincare Energising Moisturiser, which is inspired by Korean skincare and contains rice, algae, and maize. Although those ingredients might sound like they belong on your dinner plate, they’re blended with our scientists’ favourite ingredients to give you a moisturiser that reinvigorates skin, leaving it feeling cool and comfortable.

How do you moisturise after shaving?

Whilst an aftershave balm is a good way to retain hydration, you can also help your skin by using a moisturiser every day as well. Whether this comes at the very end of your skincare routine, or you just use it following your aftershave, it’s a good way to keep on top of things and make sure your skin has the very best possible defence against dryness.

There are many types of moisturiser to choose from, each designed to help male skin in different ways. From sensitive to oily to mature, every skin type has its own unique challenges. At Bulldog, we understand the minefield that is male skincare, which is why we’ve aimed to take the stress out of it. Our ranges do what they say on the bottle, so you can use Bulldog skincare products daily, knowing your skin is being taken care of by experts.
